Mark Wigan Williams is a contemporary visual artist recognised internationally as an influential illustrator and pioneer of urban art in London ,New York and Tokyo in the 1980s.

Wigans approach is interdisciplinary crossing fine art, illustration and urban art and his prolific output includes regular international gallery exhibitions, live painting performances, theatre and television set design, animation, public art commissions, music graphics and mural paintings.
Most recently his vibrant artwork has featured on a collection of boots, shoes, backpacks and t shirts for Dr Martens. The acclaimed DrMartensXMarkWigan Collection has been enthusiastically received all over the world.
'If a picture tells a thousand words Wigans drawings are worth an entire library of professorial works on pop culture, early works from 1985 are now revealed as astonishingly accurate maps, showing the development of the attitudes that defined sub cultures' -The Independent Newspaper

'Paris had Toulouse Lautrec, Londons got Wigan an artist whose poser packed drawings immortalise the murky menagerie of late night hipsterdom' -The New Musical Express

Wigan's work revitalises more stoic forms of social realism with a neon -bright parade of semi fictitious cult classics, snap crackle and popping their way through the heated hordes of club land -The Face Magazine
Soft Wax operates on the margins where music meets sound art, meets installation art and visual art, led by Steve Wax.

Steve Wax has been a Zelig-like figure in the sphere of roots rock
rebel music for several decades. As the fulcrum of the Soft Wax project,
he has been at the helm of some of the UK’s best dub and reggae nights,
as well as performance art and installation events.

Much of
the diverse output of Soft Wax is inspired by popular music and
concerned with cultures of resistance. In the original ‘Soft Wax’
project and spin-offs, that music was the various mid-to-late 50s styles
(principally R&B), as heard on the earliest sound systems in
Britain. Soft Wax’s work is also inspired by music of Jamaican origin,
with considerable attention paid to visual and cultural presentation in
his shows.
Working to redefine art Dada swiftly spread from Switzerland to Berlin and New York where instead of painting many Dadaists worked in the mediums of collage, assemblage and photo-montage. Creating visual puns they cut up and mixed random fragments of texts, photographs and found objects.

Hugo Ball wrote the DADA manifesto delivering it at The Cabaret Voltaire in July 2016, 100 years later The Museum of Club Culture celebrates the enduring legacy of the Dadaist provocateurs and their diverse artistic output of art, poetry and performance with ‘Juxtaposition’ (the fact of two things being seen or placed close together with contrasting effect) which is the first exhibition in our cross- media Cut Up and Mix programme of interventions by artists from around the world taking place in Hull during 2016 and 2017 Hulls year as UK City of Culture.

Evoking the spirit of DADA the Juxtaposition exhibition will include collage, assemblage and sound and video art from artists including:
Michelle Thompson, Martin O’Neill, Paul Burgess, Austin Von New, Mark Wigan, Louisa Minkin, Gordon Dawson, Priya Sundram, Kerry Baldry, Chris Harper, Marcel Craven, Michael Szpakowski and more

Supported by Arts Council England and Hull City Council Arts Development
The Museum of Club Culture has received an Untold Stories 2015 Award to
make a film chronicling and celebrating the history of Nightlife in
Hull. Untold Stories is part of Roots and Wings Hulls Creative People
and Places Project funded by Arts Council England and the James Reckitt

culture of Hull from the 1960s onwards producing a record that will
become part of the Untold Stories Archive, raising the profile of the
Library Service and the wider cultural offer of Hull.
We are looking
for people to interview for this cross generational project, and to
bring in any Hull related nightclub memorabilia that we can photograph
to add to the archive/film. So if you spent time dancing the night away
at coffee clubs, ballrooms, discotheques and nightclubs such as The
Gondola Club and Coffee Bar, Grannys Parlour Folk Club,The Locarno
